The SIREN study was a pivotal UK-wide investigation launched in June 2020 to understand COVID-19 immunity and reinfection among healthcare workers. Involving over 44,000 participants across 135 NHS sites, it provided critical insights into how previous infections and vaccinations influenced immunity over time.
I contributed to this study by collecting and managing data from participants at my hospital site. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of large-scale epidemiological research and the importance of real-time data in shaping public health responses.
PRESIDE is a multi-centre prospective study investigating antimicrobial resistance in people with chronic lung diseases, including bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. By collecting detailed clinical information over time, the study aims to better understand the prevalence and development of antimicrobial resistance, the factors that drive it, and its impact on treatment and patient outcomes.
I supported the study through extensive review of patients’ medical records, including their respiratory history, previous admissions, medications, antibiotic use, test results, and relevant clinical information. I then entered and verified these data within the study database, helping to build an accurate picture of antimicrobial resistance in people living with chronic lung disease. This work highlighted the importance of meticulous real-world data collection in understanding treatment resistance and improving future respiratory care.
